About the Writer: James Ley
UP is James’s first play to be produced. James
lives in Leith and works in the marketing department of a popular tourist attraction. He regularly contributes to Words, Words, Words at the Traverse Theatre and was a finalist in the 2009 National Galleries of Scotland competition Inspired? Get Writing! with his short story, He Took Great Care of His Head. His full-length play, Standard Life, reached the Bruntwood Top 300 in the Royal Exchange Theatre’s playwriting competition in 2008. James trained in acting at the RSAMD. He appeared at the fringe many moons ago with 3Short1Tall in Female of the Species (**** The Scotsman).
About the Director: Rosalind Sydney
Rosalind trained in acting at the RSAMD.She has worked as an actress most recently in Shopping For Shoes (Visible Fictions), Naked Neighbour, Twitching Blind (Nick Underwood), We Are Everywhere at Home (Cumbernauld/ Theatro Comedia, Bucharest), Subway (Vanishing Point), Knives in Hens and King Lear (Tag), Zarraberri and Limbo (Oran Mhor), Broken Glass and It’s Your Turn to Clean the Stair (Rapture Theatre Co), Molly Whuppie and Lickety-Leap (Lickety Spit Theatre Co), and Cyrano (Catherine Wheels).
About the Actor: Laurie Brown
Laurie Brown is originally from West Yorkshire and has just graduated with a BA in acting from the RSAMD. Theatre credits include The Story of The Selfish Giant, directed by David Lees, at Gilmorehill Theatre, Glasgow. His RSAMD credits include Viktor Viktorovich in Dying for It (directed by Adrian Osmond); Lord Illingworth in A Woman of No Importance (directed by James Robert Carson); Diavolo in Mother Goose (directed by Alasdair Hawthorn); and Claudio in Measure for Measure.
